Hat Yai is a city in southern Thailand near the Malaysian border, well-known as a shopping destination for both Thais and foreigners. Hat Yai is the largest city of Songkhla Province, the largest metropolitan area in Southern, and third largest metropolitan area of the country. The name "Hat Yai" is a short version of "Mahat Yai", meaning big mahat tree, a relative of jackfruits in genus Artocarpus.
Some of the tourist spots in Hat Yai are Reclining Buddha in Wat Hat Yai Nai, Statues of Buddhas at the hilltop in Hat Yai Municipal Park and Ton Nga Chang Waterfall. Other tourist spots will be at the nearby Songkhla area.
Namtok Ton Nga Chang is located about 26 kilometres away from the city. Follow the Hat Yai – Rattaphum Road for 13 kilometres, then turn left at Ban Hu Rae for another 13 kilometres. Tourists are requested to pay the entrance fee.
Here shown other waterfalls in the Songkhla province.
Ton Nga Chang Waterfall is in Ton Nga Chang Wildlife Sanctuary.
The Ton Nga Chang Waterfall group has seven levels and has their own name & characteristic.
Treks have been provided for tourist convenient. Below is the distance of each tier of waterfall from the park.
The first level which named as Ton Ba, obviously it's a great place for picnic & swimming.
Ton Plew, the second level.
To reach 3rd tier, we have to scramble up this steep rockface. Lucky that there's still some steps for us to step on.
第三层瀑布也就是Ton Nga Chang，泰语里就是象牙的意思。这里溪水被分成两边，形成两道瀑布，也就代表着两条弯弯的象牙。象牙瀑布也就是因此得名。
The third level is named after the waterfall. Here, the stream separates into two, resembling the elephant’s tusks.
A great view of mountain from 3rd tier but beware of falling down from the clift.
Too bad that we had not much time, so only manageble to visit until the 3rd tier. Hope we can finish the whole journey in the next trip.
